Individual Therapy

The Harris Center offers individual psychotherapy for adults and children, as well as for couples and families. Psychiatric consultation to assess need for medication is also available. Treatment is provided for a full range of issues, including but not limited to:

Groups

Adult

DBT Skills Training Group - Ongoing

Focus: Coping skills training for persons with borderline personality disorder, based on Linehan's dialectical behavior therapy model.

Format: Weekly sessions for one year for adults.

Content: Topics include regulating emotions, being more effective in relationships, and dealing with stressful situations. Sessions consist of lectures, discussion, and homework activities.

 

Sleep More Soundly- Cognitive Behavioral Skills for Insomnia - January 31 - March 7, 2018

Focus: Evidence-based cognitive behavioral approach to treating insomnia.

Format: 6 weekly evening sessions. Members must be at least 18 years old.

Content: Topics include education about sleep and insomnia, targeting of behavior change related to sleeping habits and sleeping environment, and strategies for combating unhelpful thoughts or worry that increase sleeping difficulties.

Drop-in Skills Group - Starting September 11, 2017

Focus: Skill building in a variety of topics.

Format: Drop-in class, in which you can pick and choose which groups you would like to attend.

Content: Topics include managing stress, sleep hygiene, healthy coping, mindfulness and relaxation, thinking traps, asserting needs in relationships, emotion regulation, values and goals, building relationships, self-esteem, and self-care. Groups are taught like a class and focus on skill building.

Adolescent

Healthy Relationships for Teens - January 30 - March 6, 2018

Focus: Interpersonal skills training for teens.

Format: 6-week class for adolescents ages 14-17 years old.

Content: Topics include creating healthy relationships, setting healthy boundaries, getting your needs met in relationships, conflict resolution, respecting yourself and others, and expressing your feelings to others.

 

Children

Happy Healthy Kids, Coping Skills for Children - February 1 - March 8, 2018

Focus: Teaching skills to effectively manage frustration, anxiety, stress, and other difficult emotions.

Format: 6-week after-school class for children ages 8 - 11.

Content: Topics include understanding and recognizing emotions, learning how to control your emotions, appropriately expressing emotions, problem solving, and perspective taking. Classes consist of lectures, group discussions/activities, and homework activities.

 

Assessments

Neuropsychological, intellectual, and personality assessments for both adults and children may be obtained at the center. Assessments of learning disabilities and attention deficit/hyperactivity are also available. Assessments range in price from $100 to $500. UK staff and students are eligible for a 10% discount on assessment services at the Harris Center. Please call (859.257.6853) for more information.
